Dana Breuer & CommunEquest

www.communequest.com

Dana Breuer’s experience and education is dynamic and diverse in the equine industry. She started as a child working in exchange for riding lessons in english and rode in 4-H and the United States Pony Club. Where she rode as a three-day eventer, and hunter. She also worked on a farm where they drove teams and used horse power for much of their farming needs.

As a teen she started working on cattle ranches stocked with well over a 1,000 head. Day working on ranches from MT to ID, AZ, NM, CO and UT has given her many years and miles in the saddle. Within these years she was able to ride at University of Findlay English Equestrian program and gain her level 3 in Parelli Natural Horsemanship in western riding. Dana doesn’t care to name drop, and the list is too long to share but she has studied under or worked for many world-renowned horse trainers and instructors that range from colt starting to performance in a number of disciplines.

She has also acquired her membership as an Equine Specialist in EAGALA and certification as an instructor in english and western riding with Certified Horsemanship Association. In more recent years Dana has been competing and developing her earnings in URCHA and NCHA. She continues to teach others, train horses and fit in a few clinics throughout the country. As her students say “She doesn't assume anything. She trains rider and horse with patience, reasoning, and reinforcement in a timely and encouraging manner. If you have the fortune of crossing her path, walk along with her for a while and enjoy the journey.”

Why Horses?

Horses are naturally social animals with personalities, attitudes, fears, and moods, and they are very sensitive to the energy around them. They will respond appropriately to human interaction, allowing kids to experience a sense of connection and participation. Horses and kids are seeking the same feelings of trust and connection, and once a child realizes this similarity, he or she is able to form a connection that is uplifting and inspiring. Horses are able to teach kids about themselves and their interaction with others around them.

Horsemanship

There are many reasons why horses are such effective teachers. Their ability to read emotional and environmental cues, subtle body language, and sensations help kids focus their attention, improve their concentration, maintain self-awareness, and practice being consistent. They assist kids in becoming aware of the effect their emotions and behavior have on others. They also help kids appreciate the positive aspects of being part of a group, such as family, friends, and classmates.

Life Skills

Kids also benefit mentally from developing a connection with a social animal known for being responsive to human emotional states. Instructors say that kids can improve their emotional expression and self-regulation, as well as reduce anxiety. Research bears this out, including studies conducted by Ellen Kaye Gehrke, Ph.D., on heart rate variability between humans and horses, whose outcomes point to the mood-boosting effect of the horse.

Communication Skills

Skills kids can directly apply to their lives at home.

Developing effective communication and cooperation skills are an essential part of every relationship, affecting everything from school, social, and family interactions.

Whether verbally or nonverbally it's important to understand how we share information, ideas and emotions with others.

Out in the world on their own, our kids will encounter many strangers – teachers, coaches, neighbors, store clerks, and friend’s parents to name a few.

Our kids need to know how to look these people in the eyes, clearly communicate with them and possibly even advocate for themselves if need be.

The Rangers Equestrian Kids Program teaches communications skills kids can directly apply to their lives at home. By communicating, negotiating and collaborating with a thousand plus pound animal like the horse our kids learn effective communication skills and much more.
